Error Message Attempting to Synchronize Remote "My Documents" Folder (281723)

SYMPTOMS When you use ActiveSync file synchronization, file
synchronization may not work and generate the following error message if the
device's My Documents folder is configured to synchronize to a location other
than locally: Attention Required
CAUSE ActiveSync does not support file synchronization when a
device's My Documents folder has been redirected to a remote server. The
device's My Documents folder must point to a location on the desktop computer
that is running ActiveSync. RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk. To resolve this issue, change the location of the
device's My Documents folder from the remote server to a local folder on the
desktop computer that is running ActiveSync. To change the location, modify the
following registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\X\Services\Synchronization\Briefcase Path where X is the ID number
for the partnership. To confirm the location where ActiveSync is
configured to synchronize the device's My Documents folder, follow these steps:
- In ActiveSync, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Sync Options tab.
- Click Files, and then click Settings.
- Under Synchronization Settings, look for the On this computer, synchronize the files in
this folder option. The path to the device's My Documents folder is
listed under this caption. If the path does not point to a location on your
desktop computer (for example, C:\My Documents\Pocket_PC My Documents), file
synchronization will not work.
