CAUSE

ActiveSync does not support file synchronization when a device's My Documents folder has been redirected to a remote server. The device's My Documents folder must point to a location on the desktop computer that is running ActiveSync.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, change the location of the device's My Documents folder from the remote server to a local folder on the desktop computer that is running ActiveSync. To change the location, modify the following registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\X\Services\Synchronization\Briefcase Path

where X is the ID number for the partnership.

To confirm the location where ActiveSync is configured to synchronize the device's My Documents folder, follow these steps:
  1. In ActiveSync, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Sync Options tab.
  2. Click Files, and then click Settings.
  3. Under Synchronization Settings, look for the On this computer, synchronize the files in this folder option. The path to the device's My Documents folder is listed under this caption. If the path does not point to a location on your desktop computer (for example, C:\My Documents\Pocket_PC My Documents), file synchronization will not work.
