Outlook Mobile Access "0x8004005" Error When Deleting a Message (281720)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
This article was previously published under Q281720 SYMPTOMS
When you delete a message by using Outlook Mobile Access, you may receive the following error message:
An unknown error occurred.
When you click Details, the following information is displayed:
Exchange 2000 Server Data Module, 0x80004005 Unspecified error.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if the mailbox is shared between multiple parties. You may receive the error message if the message that you want to delete has already been deleted by another user. You may experience the same error message if you click Forward, Reply, or Reply to all on a message that has been deleted.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior is by design. MAPI does not function correctly on a message that does not exist.
The most common scenario for this issue is if a manager and an assistant have access to the same mailbox. If the assistant is cleaning out the manager's mailbox at the same time that the manager is using Outlook Mobile Access to access his or her mailbox remotely, the error message described in the "Summary" section may be displayed.
This issue may also occur if a message is sent to your Inbox that is subsequently processed by a server-side rule or a client-side rule (if the client is running). The message is moved from the Inbox, and therefore it is no longer accessible in that folder.
