SUMMARY

This article describes the Setup log in Mobile Information Server.

MORE INFORMATION

The Setup log in Mobile Information Server records each action that is performed by Setup. The checks and settings that are recorded start when Setup initially starts and before any files are copied or any modifications are made. Verbose logging is enabled by default.

The Setup log for Mobile Information Server is located in the following folder, where C is the boot partition, and where N is the number that is appended to the name of the log each time Setup is run, starting with 1 (for example, MMISSetupLog1.log):

C:\MMISSetupLogN.log

A new Setup log that has an incremented number is generated each time Setup runs; information is not appended to previous Setup logs. These Setup logs are generated if you run Setup.exe from the Autorun window, or if you run the version of Setup.exe that is located in the Root folder of the installation media. When you run these versions of Setup.exe, the Setup logs are located in the following folder, where User is the name of the user who was logged on when Setup was run:

X:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp\MSIxxxx.log

The file names begin with "MSI" and include a combination of letters and numbers, for example, MSIa43b3.log.

NOTE: If you run Setup.exe from the English\Setup folder, the Setup Log is not created.

The Local Settings folder is a hidden system folder. To access this folder:
  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Click the Show hidden files and folders check box, click Apply, and then click OK.
The information in the Setup logs is the same regardless of the version of Setup that you run.
