SUMMARY

This article describes the Group similar taskbar buttons option in Windows XP.

MORE INFORMATION

The Group similar taskbar buttons option provides the following functionality:
  • Clustering: Items opened from the same program are placed next to each other on the taskbar.
  • Grouping: Items opened from the same program are grouped together into one button on the taskbar.

Grouping occurs when there is insufficient space on the taskbar to display an acceptable amount of text for each button. The program that was opened first is grouped first. Items will be ungrouped when more room becomes available on the taskbar.
The Group similar taskbar buttons option is selected by default; to clear this option, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties.
  2. Click to clear Group similar taskbar buttons.
