"Remove Previous Installs" Option Does Not Apply to Earlier Product Versions (281612)

This article was previously published under Q281612 SYMPTOMS When you deploy a program with Group Policy, it is possible
to remove previous installations of the program that were not installed by
Group Policy by setting the following option on the Advanced
menu: Remove previous installs of this product for computers, if the product was not installed by Group Policy-based software Installation. However, after setting this option and deploying the program to
users or computers, you may discover that earlier (legacy) versions of the
program have not been removed as expected. CAUSE This behavior can occur because this option does not work
for earlier (legacy) versions of programs. Although the check box is
functional, earlier versions of a program will not be removed. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
