ACC2002: Error Message: "Could Not Find File..." When You Select One of the Sample Databases (281589)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2002

This article was previously published under Q281589
Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you select one of the sample databases in the New File window under Open a File, you receive the following error message:
! Could not find file 'C:\ ... Northwind Sample Database'.
NOTE: The New File window is displayed when you first start Access, or when you click New on the File menu.

CAUSE

If you had Access 2000 installed on your computer but never used the links to the sample databases, and you then install Access 2002, the links in the Most Recently Used files listing for the Access 2000 sample databases may still appear. However, after the upgrade, these Access 2000 links are broken and do not start the sample databases.

RESOLUTION

The sample files have been moved to the Help menu. On the Help menu, point to Sample Databases, and then click either Northwind Sample Database (Northwind.mdb) or Northwind Sample Access Project (NorthwindCS.adp).

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
