Cannot Synchronize Handheld Devices with Outlook Secondary Folders, Custom Fields, and Forms (281578)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Pocket Outlook 2.0
- Microsoft Pocket Outlook 3.01
This article was previously published under Q281578 SYMPTOMS
When you synchronize a handheld computer with Microsoft Outlook, you may also want to synchronize secondary folders, custom fields, and forms. However, by design, ActiveSync (and Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.x) synchronize only the default folders, default forms, and the data fields used by Pocket Outlook.
CAUSE
Because of the limited resources and capabilities of the platform, Pocket Outlook uses a subset of the Outlook data fields. ActiveSync, as the transport between Pocket Outlook (on the handheld computing device) and Outlook for Windows (on the desktop computer), transfers only the data needed by Pocket Outlook.
MORE INFORMATION
There is a third-party product made by PUMATECH, called Intellisync, for the Palm Computing platform and Windows CE handheld devices. Intellisync may provide additional synchronization and field-mapping capabilities. This program enhances the capabilities of Windows CE Services 2.x and ActiveSync 3.x by giving users the ability to synchronize their handheld computers with alternate folders (including secondary mailboxes, non-default personal folder files, and public folders). This product also includes field-mapping capability that gives users the ability to redirect an existing Outlook data field into one of the default fields used by Pocket Outlook.
The third-party products that are discussed in this article are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.
