OL2002: Messages That Are Sent from a Hotmail Account Do Not Support Digital Signatures (281362)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q281362

SYMPTOMS

When you send a digitally signed message from a Hotmail account in Outlook 2002, the received message appears to be a clear text signed message even though the clear text option was not specified in Outlook 2002.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Hotmail does not support digitally signed messages.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, turn off the option to digitally sign the message. To do this on a per-message basis, click Options on the View menu, click the Security Settings button, and then click to clear the Add digital signature to this message option.
