Error 0x800A0CC1 When You Delete Category in Business Desk (281151)

SYMPTOMS

When you delete a category based on a custom category definition, the user may not be able to edit existing categories based on a custom definition. When the user tries to edit one of the remaining categories in the Commerce Server Business Desk, the following error message appears:
Error Type:
ADODB.Recordset (0x800A0CC1)
Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

CAUSE

When you create a category based on a custom category definition that contains custom properties, columns are added to the XXX_CatalogProducts table. If you delete one of the categories, all of the custom columns that were created are deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Commerce Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Commerce Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in Commerce Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a catalog property named MyDescription (Text).
  2. Create a category definition named MyCategory.
  3. Add MyDescription as a property of the MyCategory definition.
  4. Create two categories that are based on the MyCategory definition.
  5. Delete one of the categories from step 4.
  6. Try to edit the remaining category from step 4, and you receive the above-mentioned error.
