OL2002: You Cannot Sort Your Inbox by Symbol (281037)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q281037 SYMPTOMS
When you sort message items by the Icon field in an Outlook folder, the items may not appear to be sorted in the proper read or unread order.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Icon field is not sorted by the read or unread status of an item. When you sort a view by the Icon field, items are sorted by the format (plain text, or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), or Microsoft Outlook Rich Text) of the item, and by the index value of the icon.
If you see two or more groupings of unread items, it is because they are all of in the same format.
