When the Islamic religious and national holidays are added to the Outlook Calendar, the dates may not correctly coincide with the locally accepted lunar calendar.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, contact the Crescent Committee member at your local mosque to determine the correct start of the lunar new year. Adjust the holiday dates according to the difference between the starting date of the lunar new year and the date published in the Outlook.hol referenced below. Once you have determined the correct dates, the following are three different methods to resolve errors in calendar holidays. Each is addressed separately.
- To correct erroneous holidays in the existing calendar, double-click and manually edit each event to change the date or spelling error. If this method is not successful, go to step 2.
- Use the following steps to remove all the existing holiday events:
- Open the Calendar.
- On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Annual Events.
- On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current View.
- Click the Filters button, and then click the Clear All button to remove the filters that hide some events.
- In the right column of the Annual Events view, you should see the Categories column, with "Holiday" (without quotation marks) as an entry.
- Click to select the first entry in that column, and then scroll down to the last entry.
- While you hold the SHIFT key, click the last entry to highlight all of them, and then press the DELETE key to delete all the existing holidays.
- Use the following step to correct the holiday entries:
- On the Tools menu, click Options, click Calendar Options, and the click the Add Holidays button.
- Click to select the holiday selection that you want to add, and then click OK.
- The third method to resolve this problem involves editing the text file that is used as a source document for creating the events. To do this:
- Close Microsoft Outlook.
- Click Start, point to Find or Search, click Files or Folders, and then type outlook.hol in the Named box.
- Change the Look in location to your local drives, and then click Find Next.
- Hold down the CTRL key, right-click the file name, click the Open With menu, and then locate the Notepad.exe file.
- Scroll to the country that you want to add or modify entries.
- Make the changes as they are needed, keeping with the following syntax:
Holiday Name,YYYY/MM/DD (note there are no spaces between the name and the date).
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
