OL2002: In Outlook E-mail, Spelling Checker Flags Letters After Apostrophe as Misspelled Word (280940)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q280940

SYMPTOMS

When you check the spelling in a message that includes words that have an apostrophe (for example, "we'll"), the spelling checker may flag the letters after the apostrophe ("ll") as a misspelled word.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you run the spelling checker for a Rich Text Format (RTF) message while the insertion point (the cursor) is located just before an apostrophe in a word like "we'll".

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, before you run the spelling checker, move the insertion point so that it is not within a word that contains an apostrophe.

Formatting messages in HTML or plain text will also prevent this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
