When you receive a message from a contact who has both Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Hotmail addresses defined in your address book, Instant Messenger does not notify you that the sender is online if the message comes from the SMTP address.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
