Images That You Created in MS Paint Are Larger Than Expected When You Print Them (280848)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
This article was previously published under Q280848 SYMPTOMS
If you create a document by using MS Paint, when you print the file, the images may be larger than expected.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because printing is dependent on video resolution. MS Paint does not consider video display resolution when it creates the output. If your video display is set to 640 x 480, when you print the file, the image is very large. However, if the Desktop Area or Screen Area settings are set to higher display settings, when you print the file, the images are smaller than expected.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, paste the image into a Microsoft WordPad document (or a document from a similar program), and then print the document.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
When you use WordPad, you can resize the image and retain a crisp image printout. When you paste an image into WordPad, the image is converted to a Windows Meta File (WMF) which is more flexible than a bitmap file. MS Paint uses the bitmap format.
