XADM: Defragmenting a Large Database with Remote Output Causes Assertion Failure (280792)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q280792

SYMPTOMS

If you run the Eseutil tool with the /D switch to defragment a 4 gigabyte (GB) or larger .stm file to a remote location, the procedure may not work and you receive the following error message:
Assertion failed: dPercentage >= 0, file K:\ese98\src\eseutil\eseutil.cxx, line 675

CAUSE

During the copy process, a miscalculation is made in Eseutil that causes the program to end during the copy of the remote file. Defragmentation has finished, but Eseutil still stops, and the database is not copied back to the original location.
