This article was previously published under Q280659

SYMPTOMS

After you install and start Excel 2002, custom toolbars from earlier versions of Excel do not appear. Excel 2002 displays the default toolbar configuration.

MORE INFORMATION

When you upgrade to Excel 2002, custom toolbars and settings that were created in previous versions are not migrated. Furthermore, custom toolbars that are created in Excel 2002 are only accessible in Excel 2002.

Excel 2002 custom toolbar settings are stored in the Excel10.xlb file. In Excel 2000, custom toolbars are stored in a different file, the Excel.xlb file.

If you install Microsoft Excel 2002 to the default location, the Excel10.xlb file is stored in the following folders, depending on which operating system you use.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP

drive:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

drive:\WINNT\Profiles\User name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition and Windows 98

drive:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

NOTE: If you have Profiles enabled, then the Excel10.xlb file is stored in:

drive:\WINDOWS\Profiles\User name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

NOTE: In the locations noted in this article, drive is the letter of the drive on which Windows is installed, and User name is the name with which you log on to Windows.

For more information about custom toolbars, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type custom toolbar in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
