FP2002: Speech Commands Do Not Work as Expected (280628)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2002

This article was previously published under Q280628

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft FrontPage, when you click Speech on the Tools menu, some of the speech commands may not work as expected. For example, when you use speech commands to open the Print Page Setup dialog box on the File menu, you cannot adjust the margins with the speech commands.

However, the command buttons in the Print Page Setup dialog box -- Options, OK, and Cancel -- all work as expected. Additionally, the speech balloon on the Language bar indicates that you are pronouncing the commands correctly.

This behavior is different from that of other Microsoft Office XP programs.

WORKAROUND

When the speech command does not return the expected response, use the mouse or keyboard to click or type the command that you want.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you are dictating commands that the speech recognition engine does not recognize (the words do not appear in the balloon on the Language bar), you may have to retrain the speech recognition engine. To retrain the speech recognition engine, follow these steps:
  1. On the Language bar, click Tools.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Training.
  3. Follow all of the instructions of the Voice Training Wizard to train or retrain the speech recognition engine to your voice.
