XADM: Event ID 326 and 327 Messages Are Logged (280489)

SYMPTOMS

Messages that are sent to mailboxes or mail-enabled public folders may be trapped in the Outbox folder of the sender's mailbox or the local delivery queue on the receiver's Exchange Server computer. In addition, the following events are logged in the Application event log:

CAUSE

For each mailbox store and public folder store, there is a corresponding object under the container:

CN=Connections,CN=organization name,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain name,DC=com

The distinguished name of the object is displayed in the property homeMDBBL of the store:

CN=SMTP (RECMAIL5-{A635FADE-55AC-4F29-956C-BC32CD27337D}),CN=Connections,CN=volcano,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=companyA,DC=com

If this object is missing, when you send messages to the corresponding mailbox store or public folder store, you receive the event messages that are described in the "Summary" section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior if it occurs on either your default private store or default public store (that is, the first private or public store in the first storage group), insert the Exchange 2000 CD and run the command, setup /reinstall. When you receive the prompt to overwrite files, click No to all, particularly if you are running an Exchange 2000 Service Pack.

To resolve this issue if it occurs on the mailbox store, create another mailbox store, and then move mailboxes to the new mailbox store. For more information about how to move a mailbox, refer to the "Move a Mailbox" topic in Exchange 2000 Online Help.

To resolve this issue if it occurs on the public folder store, use the following procedure:
  1. If the public folder store is used for the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) tree, open the mailbox store properties, click the General tab, and then point each mailbox store that uses this public folder store as the default public store to another public folder store.
  2. If the public folder store is used for the MAPI tree, record the settings for offline Address Books that are hosted on the server, and then remove the offline Address Books.

    NOTE: If you do not complete this step, you are unable to complete step four successfully.
  3. Open the public folder store properties, click the Database tab, and then record the file name and location for the .edb file and the .stm file.
  4. After you successfully dismount the public folder store, delete the public folder store.

    NOTE: You may be prompted to enter a public folder store on another Exchange Server computer. If so, enter a computer, and then click Yes. The database files for the public folder store still exist on the server after you complete this step.
  5. Rename the .edb and .stm files for the public folder store.

    For example, rename "Pub1.edb" to "Pub3.edb", and then rename "Pub1.stm" to "Pub3.stm".
  6. Start Exchange System Manager, create the public folder store with the same name that you used before.
  7. Click the Database tab, enter the same path and file name you entered in step three, click to select the This database can be overwritten by a restore check box, and then click OK.

    If you are prompted to mount the newly created store, click No.
  8. Rename the .edb and .stm files for the public folder store back to their original names.

    For example, rename "Pub3.edb" to "Pub1.edb", and then rename "Pub3.stm" to "Pub1.stm".
  9. Mount the public folder store.
  10. If you completed step one, open the mailbox store properties, click the General tab, and then change the default public store to the newly created public folder store.
  11. If you completed step two, re-create the offline Address Books, and then configure them with their previous settings.
