OFFXP: WordArt Is Not Displayed Correctly in Preview or in Preview in Browser (280456)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FrontPage 2002
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
- Microsoft Publisher 2002
This article was previously published under Q280456 SYMPTOMS
When you insert a WordArt image in Microsoft FrontPage 2002 and preview the image, either in your Web browser or by clicking the Preview tab at the bottom of the screen, the resulting image appears choppy, and shadow effects are not rendered correctly. The image appears okay in normal view.
This behavior also occurs when you use Microsoft Publisher 2002 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.
CAUSE
WordArt is created by using the Vector Markup Language (VML). In a Web browser, the Vector Graphics Rendering (VGX) engine is used to draw shapes and display pictures faster and with more fidelity. The Vector Graphics Rendering (VGX) engine uses the Graphics Device Interface (GDI). In current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE 5.5 as of this writing), GDI does not provide for the Anti-Aliasing that is required to render WordArt the same way that it appears within the Office program, FrontPage 2002 in this case.
WORKAROUND
There is currently no workaround for this issue. Future versions of Internet Explorer will make use of GDI+, which will have improved Anti-Aliasing support for VML graphics.
