This article was previously published under Q280319 SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade an existing computer that runs Microsoft
Internet Locator Service (ILS) to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you may receive the
following error message: This service is not available with Windows Server 2003 and it will be disabled once you upgrade this computer to Windows Server 2003. CAUSE This behavior occurs when a computer that runs ILS is
upgraded to Windows Server 2003. ILS is not supported in Windows Server 2003. WORKAROUND Windows Server 2003 includes TAPI 3.1. TAPI 3.1 can support TAPI program directory partitions (TAPI directories). TAPI program directory partitions are specific naming contexts in the Active Directory directory service that are designated for use by TAPI. TAPI 3.1 stores dynamic information about active users and conference sessions in progress in TAPI program directory partitions. To support TAPI-3.1 programs, such as Phone Dialer, that run on Windows XP-based clients, you must configure a TAPI program directory partition on a Windows Server 2003-based domain controller. Important If your organization uses programs such as Microsoft NetMeeting or TAPI-3.0 based programs, that run on Microsoft Windows 2000-based clients, you must maintain at least one ILS server that is running Windows 2000 Server. To configure a TAPI program directory partition, following these steps: - Verify that the computer is a domain controller and that
the Active Directory service is running.
- Open a command prompt.
- Type:
tapicfg install /directory:NC_Name [/server:DC_name] [/forcedefault]
The following switches have the following uses:
- Value: /directory:NC_name
Description: It specifies the Domain Name System (DNS) name
of the TAPI program directory partition to be created. This name must be a
fully qualified domain name. - Value: /server:DC_name
Description: It specifies the DNS name of the domain
controller on which the TAPI program directory partition is to be created. This
name must be a fully qualified domain name. If the domain controller name is
not specified, the name of the local computer is used. - Value: /forcedefault
Description: It is an optional switch that specifies this
directory as the default TAPI program directory partition for the domain. If
you want to create more than one TAPI program directory partition per domain,
only one TAPI program directory partition can become the default for the
domain.
