A Shared Fax User Cannot Add a SharedFax Printer with the Add Printer Wizard (280233)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Server 2000
  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q280233

SYMPTOMS

When a user deletes a SharedFax printer and attempts to reinstall it by using the Add Printer Wizard, the wizard displays a list of manufacturers and printers, but there is no listing for the SharedFax printer.

Also, in Control Panel, if you click Printers, you cannot add the printer by means of the Add Printer Wizard.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the SharedFax printer is not a real printer. Therefore, there is no setup .inf file for it. The SharedFax printer is only a fax queue (located in Control Panel, if you click Printers).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Under Microsoft Small Business Server 2000, Click Change/Remove.
  3. Verify the product identification, automatic logon, company, telephony, and domain information.
  4. On the Component Selection dialog box, next to Microsoft Shared Fax, click Reinstall.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and provide the appropriate CD-ROMs when required to finish the Small Business Server integrated setup.
