"Cannot Find Winsvrc.exe" Error Message When You Try to Start a Program (.exe) File (280131)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run a program (.exe) file, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot Find Winsvrc.exe

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your computer has been infected by the W32.navidad virus.

Note that the W32.navidad virus is also known as Emanuel, Emmanuel, I-Worm.navidad, Navidad, Troj_Emmanuel, Troj_Navidad.A, W32.navidad.16896, W32/Navidad-B, W32/Navidad.e@M, W32/Navidad.gen@M, and Win32/Navidad.Worm.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install an antivirus program to detect and remove the W32.navidad virus.

The W32.navidad virus is an Internet "worm" virus. It is distributed as an e-mail attachment that is named Navidad.exe.   • If you click the Eye icon, a button is displayed with the text "Nunca presionar este boton." The translation of this text is "Never press this button."
  • If you click the button, you see a message box titled "Feliz Navidad." This box contains the text "Lamentablemente cayo en la tentacion y perdio su computadora." The translation of this text is "Merry Christmas. Unfortunately, you've given in to temptation and lose your computer."
