Inetres.adm Is Uploaded to the Server in Mixed Languages (280111)

SYMPTOMS

When you are working in an environment that has a server that is running a version of Windows 2000 in one language, for example, English, if the Inetres.adm file is edited on a different server that is running a version of Windows 2000 in a different language, for example, German, when the .adm file is uploaded to the server that is running the English version of Windows 2000, the Windows Components folder either contains multiple languages, or two different Windows Components folders are created.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Administrative Templates extension (.adm) always updates the Group Policy object (GPO) with the latest version of the files.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
  • Edit the .adm file. Add the appropriate language string with the correct section block before uploading the file.

    -or-
  • Disable the policy that controls the auto-update option. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click User Configuration, and then click Administrative Templates.
    2. Click System, and then click Group Policy.
    3. Click to clear the Automatic updates to .adm files check box.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
