XADM: Error Code 0xC007041C on ExIFS Occurs During Setup (280098)

SYMPTOMS

When you run Exchange 2000 Server Setup, the Messaging and Collaboration portion of Setup may not succeed. When Setup has completed, the following error message may be reported in the Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file:
Service = 'EXIFS' (N:\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\svcmgr.cxx:283)
Error code 0XC007041C (1052): The requested control is not valid for this service.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Installable File System (IFS) was not completely removed if you previously installed Exchange 2000, and then removed it.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove Exchange 2000 manually.

After you successfully remove Exchange 2000, restart the computer. Setup should now run successfully.
