SBS: Renaming Fax Cover Page with Blank Name Generates a Misleading Error Message (280016)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 SP1
- Microsoft BackOffice Server 2000
This article was previously published under Q280016 SYMPTOMS
While you are renaming personal cover pages on Small Business Server 2000 fax or BackOffice Server 2000 fax, if you try to save the cover page with a blank name, you receive the following misleading error message:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists. [183, 7100000597]
NOTE: The actual number may vary.
The original name of the cover page is retained.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because empty file names are not permitted in the Windows 2000 operating system. However, the error that you receive in this scenario does not indicate that you left the name blank.
RESOLUTION
Because the original name of the cover page is retained, to resolve this problem, just perform the renaming operation again and provide a valid name.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
