The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Small Business Server 2000
This article was previously published under Q280010 SYMPTOMS
The Setup Computer Wizard configures a client computer to obtain its TCP/IP address information by using the DHCP service even when there is not an available server that is running the DHCP service, or when the wizard is statically configuring TCP/IP settings on clients.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Setup Computer Wizard only supports a scenario where client TCP/IP settings are configured by using the DHCP service.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, manually configure TCP/IP settings on the affected clients. To do this, you can open the Network tool in the Control Panel, and then select the TCP/IP option for the network adapter. On the IP Address tab, you can configure the client with a static IP address.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.MORE INFORMATION
To open the TCP/IP Properties dialog box on a Windows 2000-based client, open Control Panel, double-click the Network icon, right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties. In the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, you can set TCP/IP to automatically obtain an IP address.
