This article was previously published under Q279840

SYMPTOMS

When a device has been provisioned for a user, and that user wants to change the device name on the Mobile Information Server Preferencing page, when the user updates the Name field, the corresponding change to the device name is not made in Active Directory nor does the name of the device folder that exists in the user's Microsoft Exchange 2000 mailbox change.

WORKAROUND

To change the device name:
  1. Open the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.
  2. Open the properties for a user, click the Wireless Mobility tab, and update the device name as you want it to be.
  3. Return to the Preferencing page at the following Web site, and then re-preference the device to a folder with the new device name in the user's Exchange mailbox.

NOTE: Be sure to have the user update any rules in his or her mailbox to point to the newly created folder.
