Site Server 3.0 Incorrectly Calculates the Length of a DBCS String (279679)

SYMPTOMS

When you assign a DBCS string to an attribute value in Site Server 3.0, it may return a NULL string as the value of this attribute from MDM or ASP.

CAUSE

This occurs because Site Server 3.0 incorrectly calculates the length of DBCS strings.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Site Server 3.0 that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

Restarting LDAPSVC may resolve this problem.
