PUB2002: Cannot Import a Word Document from an Internet Location (279384)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to use a URL, a Web folder, or a network place that is located on the Internet to import a Word document by using the Word Documents Wizard, you receive the following error message:
You cannot use an Internet address here. Enter a path that points to a location on your computer or on the network.

WORKAROUND

To import the Word document, you must access the document with your Web browser, save it to your computer or to a network share, and then import it into Publisher by using the Word Document Wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Through your Web browser, locate the link to the Word document that you want to import into Publisher.
  2. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, right-click the link, and then click Save link as.
  3. Select a location on your hard disk to save the file to, and then click Save.
After you save the file, you can use the Word Document Wizard to import the file into Publisher.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
