PUB2002: Go To Page Window Displays Incorrect Page Numbers (279381)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q279381

SYMPTOMS

When you click Go to Page on the Edit menu, the Go to Page window may not list your page numbers correctly if you have customized your page numbers. In addition, if you type a page number and then click OK, Publisher may navigate to a page other than the one you want.

CAUSE

Microsoft Publisher uses physical page numbering to track pages within the publication and visual page numbers to display and print page numbers.

The Go to Page option on the Edit menu allows you to navigate to a specific page in a publication. The dialog box states, "Your publication has x pages, numbered 1 through x." The dialog box refers to x as the total number of physical pages in the publication. This may be inconsistent with custom page numbers that you may have assigned to any particular page.

If you use the Section feature to modify page numbering, the Page Navigation icons that represent the logical pages at the bottom of the publication display the section breaks and the numbering of pages within that section.

For example, in a publication that has 15 physical pages, Section One may be numbered 1 through 5. Section Two may restart numbering at 1 and continue through 10. To navigate to Page 5 in Section Two, you must type 10 in the Go to Page box.

RESOLUTION

To navigate to a page by using Go to Page, type the physical number of the page. You may have to manually count the actual number of physical pages in your publication.

STATUS
