PUB2002: Line Spacing Is Incorrect When You Use "Up" Drop Cap Style in Web Page (279369)

When you use any of the "Up" letter positions for a drop cap, extra space appears between the first line of text and the next line of text in the frame, when you preview the text frame in a Web browser. The amount of extra space varies with the size of the drop cap letter.
CAUSE
Drop cap characters occupy more physical page space, both above the baseline of the text and below the baseline, than characters that use standard typeface sizes. Publisher handles this difference internally by keeping the line spacing consistent for each paragraph. However, the drop cap characters do not have this support in most Web browsers.
As a result, when your publication is viewed in a browser, the portion of the character's "bounding box" that extends past the baseline of the text line forces the next line of text lower.
Note that when your Web publication is opened again in Publisher, the correct line spacing returns.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
