Icons Become Invisible When Dragged Across Desktop (279348)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q279348 SYMPTOMS
When you select a group of icons and drag them to another location on the desktop, some of the icons may become transparent, but some of the icons may become nearly invisible.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you have the Show window contents while dragging setting enabled on the Effects tab of the Display tool in Control Panel. After you enable this setting, Windows treats all of the selected icons as a single object, and gradiates the transparency level across this object. Because of this, some icons may appear more visible, and some may appear less visible.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, note that if the Show window contents while dragging setting is not enabled, all icons appear to have the same level of transparency when you drag them to another location on the desktop. To disable the Show window contents while dragging setting:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- Click the Effects tab.
- Click to clear the Show window contents while dragging check box.
- Click OK.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
