Access Violation Occurs in Cpshost When Malformed HTTP Access Request Is Received (279332)

SYMPTOMS

When a malformed HTTP request is submitted to the Site Server Posting Acceptor, Drwtsn32 may indicate that Inetinfo (IIS) has failed with an Access Violation error message. Prior to failing with an Access Violation error message, the World Wide Web service may be unresponsive until it is restarted.

CAUSE

A malformed HTTP request may cause Cpshost to perform a buffer overflow, which results in the Access Violation error message, and causes IIS to fail.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Site Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
