SYMPTOMS

In the German version of Windows Millennium Edition (Me), if you play a sound file after Microsoft Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001 plays a .wav file, Windows Media Player (Wmplayer.exe) may generate an access violation, and you may receive the following error message in German:
Wmplayer hat in unbekannt einen Fehler verursacht. Wmplayer wird geschlossen.
The English translation of the preceding error message is:
Wmplayer caused an error in unknown. Wmplayer will be closed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must install Microsoft DirectX version 8.0 or later. For information about how to install Microsoft DirectX version 8.0 or later, see the following Microsoft Web site:
