IntelliPoint Error Message: Drivers for the USB Device "Unnamed Device" Are Not Available (279231)

This article was previously published under Q279231 SYMPTOMS When you restart your computer after you install the
Microsoft IntelliPoint software for Macintosh, you may receive the following
error message: Drivers for the USB device "Unnamed
Device" are not available. Would you like to look for these drivers on the
Internet? If you click Cancel, you return to the desktop. If you click OK, your Web browser starts and tries to connect to the Internet.
NOTE: You do not have to connect to the Internet to install the USB
device drivers. Click Cancel. CAUSE This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions
are true:
- Your Macintosh computer is running Mac OS version
8.6.
- Conflict Catcher is running in the background.
RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, disable Conflict Catcher:
- Double-click the Macintosh hard disk.
- Click the System folder, and then click the Extensions
folder.
- Drag the Conflict Catcher file to the "Extensions (Disabled)" folder.
- In the "Extensions (Disabled)" folder, drag the EM Extension file to the Extensions folder.
- Click the System folder, and then click the Control Panels
folder.
- Drag the Conflict Catcher file to the "Control Panels (Disabled)" folder.
- Drag the Extensions Manager file from the "Control Panels (Disabled)" folder to the Control
Panels folder.
- Restart the computer.
- Verify that the Extensions Manager file is in the Control
Panels folder.
If the Extensions Manager file is not in the Control
Panels folder, repeat steps 1 through 8.
