SUMMARY

When you try to run the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe), you receive one of the following error messages:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

-or-

The Domain DomainName is not an Active Directory Domain, or an Active Directory Domain Controller for the domain could not be contacted.

-or-

Logon Failure: unknown username or bad password

MORE INFORMATION

The first message listed in the "Summary" section of this article occurs if you run Dcpromo on a domain controller where the Domain Name System (DNS) is not configured correctly. As a result, Dcpromo cannot access the Active Directory directory service. To resolve this issue, review the DNS configuration.
The second message in the "Summary" section of this article occurs if you provide an incorrect domain name when you are prompted for your credentials. To resolve this issue, run Dcpromo again and type the correct domain name.

The third message in the "Summary" section of this article occurs if an incorrect or misspelled user name or password is entered. To resolve this issue, verify your user name and password.
