  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP1

This article was previously published under Q279205

SYMPTOMS

If users create new connections in Microsoft Internet Explorer with a system that has a Group Policy that includes a "Delete existing connections settings, if present" policy, the connections on local computers are not deleted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Group Policy only deletes connections that had been created through Group Policy itself.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, you can use either of the following methods:
  • If connections are not present on the local computers, you can lock the users down by enabling the "Disable changing connections settings" policy. Click User Configuration, click Administrative Templates, and then click Internet Explorer.
  • If users have connections that are present, you can create a new connection through Group Policy with the same name.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
