SYMPTOMS

If your quorum disk is corrupted and you have run the Chkdsk utility to correct these corruption problems, the cluster Internet Protocol (IP) address may not come online. The Cluster service starts, but the cluster is unavailable.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Chkdsk utility takes an extended period of time to complete and the time-out value for the IP resource is exceeded.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, connect to the local node in the Cluster Administrator tool by using a period (.) and bring the cluster network name resource online:
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type: cluadmin .
  2. Right-click Cluster Group, and then click Bring Online.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

It is recommended to keep the quorum on a dedicated small disk resource. The recommended size for best NTFS file system optimization is 500 MB. The Chkdsk utility takes less time to run on smaller volumes that have fewer files on a dedicated quorum disk.
