The Generic Programs Are Not Viewable from the Terminal Server Client on a Clustered Server (278849)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition

This article was previously published under Q278849

SYMPTOMS

You have created a generic application resource type in a group and you have selected the Allow application to interact with the desktop option, which enables the program to run as a foreground program that is viewable. This program, however, may not be viewable if you are connected remotely to the cluster node using a Windows Terminal Server-based client.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because all generic programs and generic services on a clustered server are set to run in session 0 (the console session). You can select the Allow application to interact with the desktop option, which enables the program or service to be viewable from session 0, but the program or service is not viewable during additional sessions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
