BUG: Commerce Site Packager and Unpackager Do Not Create Databases If Database Names Contain a Period (278820)

SYMPTOMS

When you unpack a site in Commerce Server 2000, if you manually specify a database name that contains a period, the database is not created.

For example, during the site unpackaging, if you manually modify the resource settings in "Database Connection Strings" to change the database name to a name with a period (such as test.db_commerce), the unpackaging fails if the database does not already exist or if you did not click New Database on the same dialog box to create it.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the period in the database name is not parsed properly to create a new database.

RESOLUTION

There are several ways to work around this problem:
  • Do not use any periods in the database name.
  • Before you use the database, click New Database in the user interface to create the database.
  • Create the database in Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager, and then select this database from the Unpackager user interface drop-down list box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
