BUG: Sqlmaint Does Not Delete Expired Backup Files on Windows 95, 98 or ME Computers (278667)

SYMPTOMS
When creating a maintenance plan by using xp_sqlmaint, older backups that are supposed to be deleted may not actually get deleted. The -DelBkUps option in xp_sqlmaint does not work on computers that are using Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Millennium Editions that have Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Desktop Edition, MSDE 1.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition, or Desktop Engine, otherwise known as MSDE 2000. The problem exists for SQL Server regardless of the service pack level.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0.
