This article was previously published under Q278640

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a File Upload Form on a page, no default upload folder is specified in the Form Properties. If you do not specify a folder by using the Form Properties, users receive the following error message when trying to upload a file via the browser:
Form Validation Error
Please correct the information you provided by following these steps, then submit the information again:
" '/This is a test doc.doc' does not refer to a page or folder in this web. It may be a page or folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed URL.
Return to the form.

CAUSE

Any folder that needs to accept file uploads must have the Allow anonymous upload to this directory check box selected in its properties. Because that check box is not selected by default, you must manually specify an upload folder for security considerations.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. When you insert a File Upload Form, right-click it, and then select Form Properties.
  2. Click the Options button, and then specify a folder on the File Upload tab.
  3. Right-click that folder in the FrontPage Folder List view.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, clear the Allow scripts to be run check box. You then have the option of selecting Allow anonymous upload to this directory.
  5. You must select Allow anonymous upload to this directory in order for users to be able to upload files to your server.
