Emphasis effects are not rendered if Flash Once entrance effect is applied in PowerPoint (278597)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q278597 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you apply the Flash Once entrance effect to an object, and then apply any emphasis effect, the Flash Once entrance effect is rendered as expected, but the emphasis effect is not rendered.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because in PowerPoint, when the Flash Once effect is applied to an object, that object becomes invisible (the object exits) after the Flash Once effect has been rendered.
WORKAROUND
If you want your object to flash once and then reappear, chain the Flash Once entrance effect with the Appear entrance effect. After that, you can apply emphasis or exit animations to the object.
The following example applies the Flash Once entrance effect, the Appear entrance effect, and the Grow/Shrink emphasis effect.
- Create a new, blank presentation and a blank slide in that presentation.
- Insert a rectangle shape into the slide, and then click it so that it is selected.
- On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.
- In the Custom Animation task pane, click Add Effect, point to Entrance, and then click Flash Once. (You may need to first click More Effects to locate the Flash Once effect.)
- In the Custom Animation task pane, click Add Effect, point to Entrance, and then click Appear. (You may need to first click More Effects to locate the Appear effect.)
- In the Custom Animation task pane, there are two animations listed for Rectangle 1 in the animation order list. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the second animation, and then click Start After Previous.
- In the animation order list, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the second animation, and then click Effect options.
- In the Appear effect options window, click the Timing tab.
- Increase the Delay setting to two seconds, and then click OK.
- Click the rectangle on your slide so that it is selected. (This resets the Custom Animation task pane so that you can apply an emphasis effect.)
- In the Custom Animation task pane, click Add Effect, point to Emphasis, and then click Grow/Shrink. (You may need to first click More Effects to locate the Grow/Shrink effect.)
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
