PPT2002: Sound Icon Motion Path Does Not Work As Expected (278584)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002

This article was previously published under Q278584

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a sound into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the sound may not start playing until several seconds after the slide is viewed. If a motion path is assigned to the sound icon, the sound icon may jump from the start of the path to the end of the path before the sound starts playing. This behavior occurs even when the sound is set to start when the slide opens.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you use PowerPoint on a Microsoft Windows NT 4 or Windows 2000-based computer, you create a presentation slide with an inserted .rmi sound file, and you then apply animation to the sound icon.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, when you want to use a .rmi file, do not apply animation to the sound icon on the slide. If you want to animate the sound icon, use a different type of sound file, for example, a .wav file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
