SYMPTOMS

When you create a presentation In Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 or Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, and you then save the presentation as a PowerPoint 97-2002 & 95 Presentation (*.ppt) file, some of the slide transitions may not appear as expected when the presentation is viewed in PowerPoint 2000.

In PowerPoint 97 or 2000, when you click Slide Transition on the Slide Show menu, nothing appears in the Effect list box even though a transition was added to this slide in PowerPoint 2002.

In PowerPoint for Windows 95, No Transition appears in the Effect list box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you use slide transitions in the presentation that are not available to PowerPoint versions earlier than PowerPoint 2002.

When you save the presentation as a PowerPoint 97-2002 & 95 Presentation (*.ppt) file, a confirmation message appears warning you that the presentation may contain features that are not compatible with earlier versions of PowerPoint. If you click Help on the confirmation message and then view the features that are affected, slide transitions are not specifically mentioned, but Animation effects are described as either converted or not appearing in the earlier versions of PowerPoint.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, add a transition that is available in the PowerPoint version that you are using to view the presentation.

In PowerPoint 97 and 2000, follow these steps:
  1. Select the slide that you want.
  2. On the Slide Show menu, click Slide Transition.
  3. In the Effect list box, select the transition effect that you want, and then click Apply.
In PowerPoint for Windows 95, follow these steps:
  1. Select the slide that you want.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Slide Transition.
  3. In the Effect list box, select the transition effect that you want and then click OK.
