The auto-advance feature does not work correctly when you save the file as a PowerPoint 95 file and view it in PowerPoint 95 (278573)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a slide show using transition effects that are set to advance automatically using the the Automatically after option, and then you save the presentation as a Microsoft PowerPoint 95 file, when the presentation is viewed in PowerPoint 95, the auto-advance feature does not work as expected.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur if you use the AutoContent Wizard to create your presentation, or if you view the PowerPoint 95 presentation in PowerPoint 97 or later.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, create your base presentation using the AutoContent Wizard; to do so, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. Under New, click From AutoContent Wizard, and then follow the instructions in the wizard, or modify and add slides as you need for your presentation. This includes selecting a new design master for the presentation.
  3. On the Slide Show menu, click Slide Transition to apply transitions to each slide in your presentation.
  4. Select the transition that you want, and then, under Advance slide, advance the Automatically after setting to the value that you want.
  5. On the File menu, click Save As.
  6. In the Save as type box, select PowerPoint 95 (*.ppt), name the file, and then click Save.
  7. Quit PowerPoint 2002 or PowerPoint 2003, and then open the saved presentation in PowerPoint 95. The auto-advance feature now works correctly when the presentation is viewed in PowerPoint 95.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
