PPT2002: No Presenter Tools When You Use the Rehearse Timings Feature (278571)

SYMPTOMS

When you set up a presentation to run on a second monitor, and you then record timings by using the Rehearse Timings feature, the Presenter Tools do not appear on your primary monitor as expected -- as they do when you view your presentation by using the View Show feature on the Slide Show menu.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 runs the Rehearse Timings feature, the program temporarily disables the Presenter Tools. The Presenter Tools cannot be used while you record timings with the Rehearse Timings feature.

WORKAROUND

When you have finished recording timings with the Rehearse Timings feature, you can view your presentation by using the View Show feature on the Slide Show menu. After doing this, the Presenter Tools are displayed on your primary monitor.

Set Up a Presentation to Run on a Second Monitor

You must use a Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, and have dual-monitor hardware installed, to use this procedure. Use this procedure to run a slide show on the full screen of a secondary monitor while you view the Presenter Tools on the primary monitor.

On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
Click to select Show Presenter Tools.
In the Show on list, click the monitor that you want the slide show to appear on, and then click OK.

Now when you run your slide show presentation, you have your own view, a view not visible to your audience. This view allows you to do the following:

See what bullet or slide is coming next.
Pause the show by replacing the show with a black screen.
See a list of keyboard shortcuts.
Jump directly to any slide.
Read or edit your speaker notes.
End the slide show.
