Customized bullets are not displayed in the way that you expect when you view a PowerPoint presentation in Internet Explorer (278563)

SYMPTOMS

When you add customized bullets to a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the bullets are not displayed in the way that you expect when you view the presentation in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because fonts that are used for customized bullets are not embedded into the presentation. When a font is used to create bullets, Internet Explorer may not be able to correctly substitute a matching font if that font is not installed on the computer that is used to view the presentation in Internet Explorer. For example, the Monotype Corsiva True Type font character "100" appears as the letter "d" when viewed with Internet Explorer if the Monotype Corsiva True Type font is not installed on the computer.

WORKAROUND

For Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 and for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003

To work around this issue, use fonts that are common to the viewers who view the presentation. If the customized bullets are not displayed in the way that you expect, change the font or font character until you get the character that you want.

To change the custom bullets on a PowerPoint slide, follow these steps:
  1. Start PowerPoint.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Browse to find the presentation that you want, and then click Open.
  4. In the left pane, click the slide that contains the bullets that you want to change.
  5. Select the lines of text that contain the bullets that you want to change.
  6. On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering.
  7. Click Customize.
  8. In the Font box, select the font that you want.
  9. Select the character that you want, and then click OKtwo times.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
