PPT2002: "Add As Standard Scheme" Command Does Not Work Correctly (278547)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002

This article was previously published under Q278547

SYMPTOMS

When you create a custom color scheme in PowerPoint, you may experience the following:
  • If you click Add As Standard Scheme, and then click Apply, the new scheme is applied to all slides in the presentation, not just the selected slides. The new scheme also appears in the Slide Design pane.
  • If you do not click Add As Standard Scheme, and then click Apply, the new scheme is applied to all slides in the presentation. The new scheme also appears in the Slide Design pane.
The Add As Standard Scheme button appears to have no function. The new scheme appears in the Slide Design pane whether or not you click Add As Standard Scheme. You are not able to add a new scheme that you create in this manner as a standard scheme without applying it to all slides.

WORKAROUND

To apply a custom color to one element (such as the background) in only the selected slide, follow these steps:
  1. Select the slide for which you want to change the formatting of one element.

This example uses the background color.
  2. On the Format menu, click Background.
  3. In the Background dialog box, click the arrow next to the Background Fill box.
  4. Select the color that you want.
  5. Click Apply.
NOTE: Global changes can be made by clicking Apply to All, but such changes apply only to the slides that share the same slide master.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
