PPT2002: English (U.K.) Is Not the Default Dictionary for Chinese (Hong Kong) (278539)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q278539 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you select Chinese (Hong Kong SAR) in the Language dialog box, and you then type a word that is spelled in British fashion, for example, "gaol" instead of "jail," the word is tagged as misspelled.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the spelling checker defaults to English (U.S.) instead of English (U.K.) when Chinese languages are selected.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, select English (U.K.) instead of Chinese (Hong Kong SAR). To select a language for the spelling checker, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Language.
- In the Mark selected text as box, click English (U.K.), and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
